Coalmont - Maxie B. Nunley, 72, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Emerald-Hodgson hospital with all his girls at his side. He was a US Navy Veteran, owner of Maxie Nunley Grave Service, night security for the Grundy County Highway Department and attended Orange Hill Congregational Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Nunley; daughter, Penelope Nunley; grandson, Allan Lawson; brothers, George Ladue, Bill and Charles Nunley; sisters, Nellie Irene Nunley, Gladys McGee and Elaine Shadrick. He is survived by his wife, Betty Short Nunley; mother, Mary Johnson Nunley; daughters, Karen (Henry) Melton, Patty Nunley, Peggy (Larry) Stanford, Kate (Barry) Braden, Penny (Jr) Dove and Candace (Jerry) Bone; sisters, Janie (Wayne) Smartt, Jean Nunley, Lois (Doug) Seagroves, Donna (Bernard) Knost, Pamela (Craig) Morris and Ruth (Billy) Braden; brothers, Clarence (Judy) Nunley and Joe (Ann) Nunley; mother-in-law, Gladys Short; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Nina Myers and Stanley Burrows. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Bruce Nunley and Jim Caldwell officiating with burial to follow in the Coalmont Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation: 2:00 PM till 10:00 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
