Whitwell - Velma Newsom Shrum, 67, of the Griffith Creek Community, died Monday, October 11, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Chester and Liza Velma Roberson Norris; first husband, Charles Wilkie Newsom; sister, Mary Long; brother, Billy Norris; grandson, Jason Rogers. She is survived by her husband, David Shrum; sons, Tony W. (Laura) Newsom and William Tommy (Shirley) Newsom; sister, Linda (Cordell) Holcomb; step-son, Charlie (Teresa) Shrum; step-daughter, Claudette (James) Nolan; sisters-in-law, Avene Norris, Mildred Chapman and Estelle Keck; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Layne, Tommy (Lindsey), Timothy, Cody and Logan Newsom, Nathaniel (Cortney) and Greg Grimes, Timothy (Bridgett) and Orey Nolan, Lauren and Leslie Shrum; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday with Ministers Sam Long and Jason Bryant officiating with burial to follow in the Griffiths Creek Cemetery. Arrangements by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
