Obituary of James William Grimes

Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee – Mr. James William Grimes, 70, died unexpectedly Saturday February 6, 2021 at his home by the wood pile.  He was born in Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee on December 7, 1950 to Herschel Grimes and Ethel Juanita Vaughn Grimes who preceded him in death along with his sister, Juanita Griffith; brothers, Lee, Charles, Earl and Carl Ray Grimes.

 

He was a coal miner, carpenter and worked for Grundy County land fill.  He attended Mount Etta Free Will Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife, Connie Roach Grimes; son, David (Marlee) Grimes; daughter, Anna (Andy) Center, Dalton, GA; brothers, Joe (Charlotte) Grimes, Benny (Bobbie) Grimes and Wayne Grimes; sisters, Carolyn (Darwin) Shipley, Ellen (Grady) Lemons and Irene (Terry) Campbell; grandchildren, Lukas, Kaylee and Kallie Grimes, Amber, Bethany and Tyler Center; a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Raymond Borne and Greg Burnett officiating with burial to follow in the Swiss Colony Cemetery. Visitation 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Monday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
