Obituary of Melissa Ann Whitman
Palmer, Tennessee – Mrs. Melissa Ann Whitman, 50, passed away Sunday September 5, 2021, at the Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga after a lengthy battle with Covid 19. She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on June 6, 1971, to Tommy Layman Jr. and Molly O’Day Keener Layman who preceded her in death along with daughter, Tosha O’Day Nolan; father of her children, James Jerome Nolan.
She was a member of the Palmer Baptist Church. She had worked at Basham’s Sportswear for 30 plus years and was currently employed at Viam in Manchester.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Whitman; daughters, Brittany (Lewis) McGee, Tiffany (Christopher) Medley and Amber (Ryan) Clark; son, Lee (Misty) Anderson; stepdaughter, Camille Whitman; stepson, Zack Whitman; stepmother, Lou Layman; sisters, Sandra (Micky) Stephenson and Kim (Brian) Price; step-sister, Carrie Gentry; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Mike Scott officiating with burial to follow in the Palmer Cemetery.
Visitation: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Wednesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.
Visitation will be limited to 15 minutes per person and masks will be required for everyone.
