Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Bess

Altamont, Tennessee – Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Shorty” Bess, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday October 20, 2021 at her home. She was born in Altamont, Tennessee on September 15, 1930 to Fred Lockhart and Lela Tate Lockhart who preceded her in death along with her husband, Basil Bess; sons, Roger Dale and Clint Bodie Bess; infant son, Ronnie Bess; sister, Margie Lee Bess; brothers, Charles William, W.A. and Billy L. Lockhart; grandchildren, Timothy and Chasity Bess, Christopher Brian and David Wayne Bess.

 

She attended the Altamont Church of Christ until her health declined.

 

She is survived by her son, Shane (Mary Jo) Bess; daughter-in-law, Diane Bess; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Dal Barrett officiating with burial to follow in the Altamont Cemetery.

 

Visitation: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee.
