Obituary of Thomas Daniel Hostetler
Bro. Thomas Daniel Hostetler, 89, of Altamont, TN passed on to his reward Friday, November 26, 2021, in Woodleaf, NC after a gradual decline. He was born on January 14, 1932, in Belleville, PA, a son of Daniel Kory (D.K.) and Nancy Peachy Hostetler.
He was a member of Cumberland Mennonite Fellowship.
On November 21, 1959, he married Esther Lois Bawell, of Belleville, PA and they were blessed with four children. Thomas spent his 1W service at Fro Brothers Home in Sturgis, MI and at a builder’s unit at Mathis, TX. He spent his younger working years with his dad and brother in a building supply business. In his retirement years, the family moved to Altamont, TN, where he enjoyed a quiet life of raising chickens for Tyson for 30 years. He enjoyed making friends and sharing his faith by offering pocket calendars to anyone he met. Thomas and Esther lived in their mountain home until the age of 85. The past four years he was lovingly cared for by his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Hostetler and a daughter-in-law, Ruthann Kurtz Hostetler.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; four children, James Thomas Hostetler (Verna) of Livingston, AL, Lois Elisabeth Troyer (Melvin) of Crossville, TN, Anna Ruth Reed (Scott) of Woodleaf, NC, and Matthew Mark Hostetler (Keturah) of Huntland, TN; 26 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A viewing and family visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah Church in Crossville, TN on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted 10:00 am Monday, November 29, 2021 at Cumberland Mennonite Fellowship in Altamont, TN, with Daniel Horst and Wayne Diller officiating and Raymond Summers will handle the committal service.
