Obituary of Oscar Howell McDaniel
Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee – Mr. Oscar Howell McDaniel, 87, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the Sheltering Arms Home in Palmer, Tennessee. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on July 25, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother Leila Banks Tate; wife, Katie Campbell McDaniel; sons, Dexter and Eddie McDaniel; sisters, Mildred Phillips and Willie Wooten.
He was a former member and Master of the Sewanee Lodge #405 F&AM, Patron of the OES #266 Tracy City Chapter and later he attended the Felix Grundy Lodge in Pelham until his health declined. He was a master cabinet maker, and his work can be seen in many public buildings in Chattanooga, He worked for Ranies brothers, Inc., and self-employed at his Hometown Cabinet Shop in Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee. He also worked as a Coalminer, at Pro Golf and Bridge Builders. He enjoyed attending the Gruetli-Laager Senior Center and visiting with his friends there.
He is survived by his sons, Mike (Darlene), Desi (Brenda) and Johnny McDaniel; daughters, Scarlett Caldwell and Darlene (Ricky) Nunley; sister, Elsie McDaniel; brothers, Johnny Lee, Don Allen (Shirley) and Jerry Foster McDaniel; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Wednesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.
