Obituary of Alene Layne

Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee – Mrs. Janie Alene “Granny” Layne, 77, passed away Monday August 22, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on November 9, 1944, to Fred Grimes and Mila Green Grimes who preceded her in death along with her husband Claude Elmer Layne; sisters, Ola Shannon, Marie Wright, and Betty Kilgore; infant sister, Odell Grimes; brothers, Herbert, Howard, and Herschel Grimes.

Alene was a member of the Bible Way Holiness Church.  She had worked as a machine operator, caregiver and cook along with caring for her family.

She is survived by her son, Don (Odessa) Layne; daughter, Connie (Jason) Roach; brother, Harley (Faye) Grimes; sister, Katie Hobbs of Greenfield, IN; grandchildren, Marie (Jeremy) Robinson, Bridget Nolan, Kendra Pocus, Kayla (Eric) Vincent, and Jay Roach; great grandchildren, Taylor (Alanis), Katelyn, Katie, Skyler, Emma, Haley, Miley, Kiley, Sophie, Wesley, Rilynn and Alex; a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, Jeremy Robinson, James Nolan, and Mark Campbell officiating with burial to follow in the Palmer Cemetery.

Visitation: 12:00 Noon -9:00 PM Tuesday and 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM Wednesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.

The family would like to thank the Grundy EMS and the Dialysis Clinic in Jasper, Tennessee for the love and care that they gave Mrs. Layne.
