Altamont – Mr. Claude Parson, 87, passed away, Friday, July 20, 2018 in Sewanee, Tennessee. He was born in Altamont, Tennessee on June 6, 1931 to Thomas F. Parson and Lula Patrick Parson who preceded him in death along with his sisters, Willie Hobbs, Mae Thompson, Pauline Melton and Mary Sue Parson; brothers, James, Franklin, Tommy, Lee Andrew and Johnny Parson; daughter, Pamela Parson; grandson, Kyle Parson.
He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He was also retired from the Grundy County School System. He had served as Alderman for the City of Altamont. He was the honor guard leading the Altamont 4th of July Parade for 18 years. He was a member of the Laager Independent Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ophelia Lawson Parson; sons, Claude Eugene (Sue) Parson, Bruce (Tammy) Parson, Steve (Lavona) Parson and Richard (Roxanne) Parson; daughter, Brenda (John) Bailey; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; loving brothers and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Jessie Lockhart officiating with burial to follow in the Altamont Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM Sunday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
