Beersheba-Springs, Tennessee – Mr. Fernando Edward “Tony” King, 96, passed away Tuesday January 22, 2019 at his home with his family at his bedside. He was born in the Tarlton Valley in Grundy County on October 16, 1922 to Jess King and Dora Perry King who preceded him in death along with his wife, Mary Edith Layne King; son, Morris King; grandsons, Dewayne Fults and Derek King; great grandson, Rocky Clower; brothers, Marshall, Jack, Creed, Newton and Marvin King; sisters, Jessie Green, Oline Pease, Girdee Green, Velma Fults and Erlene King.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII. He was honored in the Tennessee magazine as a hometown hero. He worked Century Electric Motor and then started mowing yards and retired at 90 and then went to part-time mowing. He was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his son, Jimmy King; daughters, Glenda Coffelt, Phyllis (Billy) Holt and Edna (Late Martin) Meeks; grandchildren, Troy (Loretta) Coffelt, Michael (Stacy) Coffelt, Jerry Coffelt, Nick (Tisha) Holt, Kerri Holt, Lisa (Daniel) Crabtree, Eddie (Denise) Meeks and Natalie (Morris) Reeves; 15 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friend, Ronald Coffelt.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Alton Scruggs officiating with Military Honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard with burial to follow in the Grace Chapel Cemetery.
