Altamont, Tennessee – Mr. Charles Edwin Childers died July 26th at his home in Altamont, Tennessee. He was born in McMinnville, Tennessee on July 30, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Marzee Childers, his grandparents, Rufus and May Childers and Ame and Sallie Dickerson, and nephew John Michael Childers.
Charles was a church of Christ minister for nearly 40 years. He drove a school bus for the Grundy County School System for 28 years. He also owned and operated Southside Market in Altamont for 19 years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Sue Hobbs Childers and children, Willie (LeeAnn) Childers of Monteagle, Salli Childers of Hubbard’s Cove, and Monty (Angie) Childers of McMinnville. Charles also is survived by four brothers Mike Childers, Gary (Odell) Childers, Terry (Joanne) Childers, Danny (Dawn) Childers, and one sister Sandra (Terry) Richardson all of Altamont. He has five grandchildren, Lauren, Allie, Ty, Will, and Caiden Childers, and special nephew and niece Erik and Misty Childers who he loved like his own children. Additional nieces and nephews include Cody, Jason, Danny Wayne, and Kayla Childers, Jessica Tindle, and Breanna Richardson.
His pallbearers are William Ruehling, Cody Childers, Danny Wayne Childers, Wade Nunley, Jerimy Campbell, and Gary Lappin.
Visitation will be held at Layne Funeral Home in Altamont on Sunday, July 28th from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm and funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Brothers, Willie Childers, Charles Gattis, Speaker Myers and Ray Winton officiating with burial to follow in the Altamont Cemetery. www.laynefuneralhome.com
