Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee – Mr. Hugh Ellis “Bit” Floyd, 85, passed away Friday February 7, 2020 the Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was born in Whitwell, Tennessee on April 6, 1934 to Amos A. Floyd and Edith Cordelia Morrison Floyd who preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Virgie V. Floyd; 2nd wife, Hester Floyd; grandson, Billy E. Slatton Jr.; sister, Jean Carr; brothers, Paul M. Floyd and Johnny C. “Ducky” Floyd.
He was retired from the Elyria Foundry in Elyria, Ohio. He attended the Mount Etta Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Douglas A. (Dana) Floyd Jr; daughters, Karen (Billy Ed) Slatton and Marilyn Floyd; sister, Wanda (Jerry) Kilgore; brothers, Hedgel M. Floyd and Tommy (Kathleen) Floyd; step-daughter, Patricia Coppinger; grandchildren, Jason Slatton, Jeffery (Becky) Slatton, Douglas (Naudia) Floyd Jr., Conner Floyd, Jesse Floyd, Andrew Floyd, Cierra (Tyler) Trussell and Alex Floyd; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Faron Crisp officiating with burial to follow in the Griffiths Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday and 12:00 Noon – 8:00 PM Sunday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
