Altamont, Tennessee - Mr. Earl David Campbell, 74, passed away Monday March 29, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altamont, Tennessee on December 26, 1946 to Stanley and Elsie Fults Campbell who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Jackie, Stanley “Boy”, and Jimmy Campbell; sister, Wilma Smartt.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Altamont Ward, where he also served as Bishop for several years. He served in the US Army from 1966 – 1968 as a medic. He was proud to be an American. He served as an Alderman and Mayor of Altamont for many years. He was the Grand Marshall of the Altamont Parade in 2019.
He started his first job at 10 years old and was owner of J-N-E Logging and Mountain Top Logging. He enjoyed farming and taking care of his cows.
He had a great love for his Savior Jesus Christ. He never met a stranger and saw the good in everyone. He was the greatest Husband, Daddy and Pa in the world. He had a strong testimony that families are forever.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Scholer Campbell; children, Jody (Crissie) Campbell, Deidre (Gene) Helton, Nathan (Jackie) Campbell, Sarah (Matt) Layne, Matthew (Heather) Campbell and Jessica (Justin) Huntley; grandchildren, Garrett (Kate) Campbell, Jenna Helton, Jathan and Jadan Campbell, Josie and Jakeb Layne, Lucas and Reece Campbell, Jarom, Jarod and Jossalyn Huntley; great grandchildren, Daxton and Elowyn Campbell; brothers, Larry (Treva) Campbell and Barry (Linda) Campbell; sisters, Margaret Byers, Linna (Russell) Ladd, Sharon (James) Curtis, Sheila (Bob) Pope, Jan Whitman Hall and Patricia (Robbie) Duvall; a host of loving nieces and nephews; adopted grandson, Tanner (Becca) Cooper.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Altamont with Bishop Jody Campbell officiating with burial to follow in the Fults Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Visitation 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Wednesday at the Church.
