Obituary of Russell Irvin

Pastor Russell Irvin, 74, of Sale Creek, TN was at home and surrounded by loved ones when he went to be with the Lord on September 24th, 2021.

Russell had the honor of serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. While in the Army, Russell obtained the rank of Sergeant and was stationed in Fort Jackson, Fort Bragg, Fort Gordon, and Fort Knox. During his service, he served in the Dominican Republic where he was in combat for 13 months. His awards include the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, the National Defense Service medal, the Good Conduct medal, the Expert Rifleman badge, the 18th Airborne Corps Combat patch, and the Honorable Discharge certificate.

Russell was an ordained Bishop in the Church of God and pastored 8 churches during his 52 years of ministry.

He was preceded in death by his father William “Bill” Irvin; mother Hilda Grace Newsome Sartain; and granddaughter Whitney Kala Akins.

He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 54 years Brenda Nance Irvin; and was the loving father, grandfather, and brother of daughter Tabitha Johnson; son Jason (April) Irvin; grandchildren Kyle (Brittany) Harris, Gabe Irvin, Riley Belk; great grandchildren Attie Dixon and Briella Harris; brothers Johnny Irvin and Jim Sartain; and sister Angela Green.

Russell gave his heart and life to God on June 5th 1966. From that day until his last day, he served as a solider in the army of the Lord.

Public Visitation: 12:00 Noon - 2:00 PM Monday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.

Private funeral services with the family only will be held at 2:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Jimmy Dale Nance, Rev. Bobby Winton and Rev. Jeremy Robinson and Rev. Junior  Skaggs officiating.

Public burial services will be held following the funeral service at the Coalmont Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.
