Obituary of Charles D. Smith

Murfreesboro - Dr. Charles D. Smith, 88, passed away at his home Wednesday June 26, 2013. He was born in Altamont, Tennesssee and was a WWII veteran of the United States Marine Corps being at the battle of Iwo-Jima. Dr. Smith was an OBGYN at the Women's Clinic in Murfreesboro in partners with Dr. Bud Young before his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Fults Smith along with his sisters, Flora Mae Smith and Lila Sweeton; brothers, Ernest and Walter Sweeton, Clyde, Vernie, Kelvin, Warren and Tommy Smith; He is survived by his Companion, Sue Britnell; close friends, Sam and Jo Hughes, Evans and Alice Maples; 11 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday in the Layne Funeral Home chapel in Altamont, Tennessee with burial to follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley honor Guard.
