An avid collector of knives, baseball cards, and coins, the great joys of his life were University of Tennessee football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He played football for the Grundy County Yellow Jackets his freshman through senior years, including 1965, the year they went to Civitan Bowl.
Bob’s first job was delivering the Grit newspaper when he was a young boy, and he went to work at Combustion Engineering when he graduated from high school. He later went to work as an agent for Commonwealth Insurance Agency in the early 1980s (Later Monumental Life) and he won the Southeast Regional Vice President’s Award, the Gold Circle Award for sales, the Silver Circle Award and the Bronze Circle Award. He attended numerous Leadership Conferences and was top agent for the East Brainerd office several times. In the mid-90s, he opened his own agency in Gruetli-Laager next door to the discount store his father, Brad, ran until his passing in 2000.
Robert was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Chattanooga, Olive Branch Lodge F&AM # 297 and Order of the Eastern Star Jasper Chapter # 124.
He loved his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
