William Eugene Hiett, 79, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of 29 Edward Drive, Dalton, Massachusetts, died there Monday, August 26, 2013, at his home. Born on March 17, 1934, in Belleville, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Wallace S. Hiett Sr., and Florence M. Brown Hiett. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy Seabees from January 19, 1955 to January 19, 1957. While stationed in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, he met the former, Marion G. Gregory, whom he married on June 20, 1956, in Nova Scotia.. In 1965, Mr. Hiett went to work for General Electric Company where he was an electrical engineer in the Ordnance Systems Division for more than thirty years. He con- tinued as a consultant for Lockheed Martin until finally retiring in 2008. Mr. Hiett was a member of First Baptist Church in Pittsfield. He was active in a multiple sclerosis charity efforts. He was also enthusiastic about genealogy research. At the time of his death, he was writing and compiling a book on family genealogy. Mr. Hiett leaves his wife, Marion. He is also survived by a daughter, Bonny Snyder and her husband, Robert, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two sons, W. Patrick Hiett and his wife, Young, of San Antonio, Tex., and Timothy Cecil Hiett and his wife, Margarita, of Marblehead, Mass; four grand-children, Bonny Marie Hiett, Patricia Warden, William Hiett, and Gregory Hiett; and a sister, Dorothy Evans of North Fort Myers, Fla. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Lillian Barnhill and two brothers, Wallace S. "Shorty" Hiett, Jr., and Phillip Hiett. Graveside Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday September 07, 2013 at the Coalmont Cemetery with Bro.
