I just found out today about Donovan's passing. I've covered high school sports for many years in the mid-state, and few, if any, could compare to Donovan for his outstanding love and passion for the game. He was one of the good guys in this business, and he never did anything halfway when it went to his coverage. He went to the limits and beyond. I'm going to miss his sports coverage and having the opportunity to talk to him on occasion. My prayers go out to his entire family during this time of great sadness and grief. There will never be another like him.

I have known Donovan for 28 years, and he was always passionate about the athletes and coaches. I cannot believe he is gone. God bless his family and god rest his soul.

I met a lot of really good people during my years broadcasting and covering high school football. Donovan was at the top of the list of my favorite people to deal with professionally, and then as we got to know each other better he became a great friend. He was a frequent guest on my pre-game and halftime shows, along with my Saturday morning show in Knoxville. The night I worked my last game before retiring from broadcasting at the 2017 Blue Cross Bowl he helped me celebrate my career afterwards. Special time, and he made sure to be there. That's the kind of person and friend Donovan was. I'm going to miss the phone calls that sometimes went on for an hour, talking about goings on in high school football here in East Tennessee, and his filling me in on what was happening in the mid-state. Donovan loved what he did with high school football and his passion showed with his work. Prayers to Kristi, the kids, and his parents. I'm sure there are more questions than answers right now. RIP Buddy. You are already missed and will be forever.

I have many fond memories of Donovan. His youthful determination and humor from our younger days still make me smile today. He will leave a huge void in many lives. I hope they can fill that void with memories that bring about smiles.

I was Donovan’s 11th grade English teacher at MCHS. We continued to be friends afterwards. My fondest memory of him in my classroom was when he wrote a very detailed football play by play instead of the assigned research paper. He didn’t fulfill the assignment, but he still earned an A because it was so well written and because it had a unique voice showing his passion for sports. I encouraged him to keep doing that because he obviously loved it. Later I saw him at several ballgames in Williamson County where I taught for many years and was so proud that he had continued sports writing. He always was so happy to see me and had lots of pictures to show me of his kids and his wife. I am so glad I got to know him. He was a kind, funny, loyal person and the world is dimmer now that his bright light is gone, but he will never be forgotten. I will be praying for all of his family in the coming days.
