PALMER - Mr. Oscar Lee Ward Jr., 71, departed this life at the home of his niece in Cagle, Tennessee, Wednesday February 5, 2014. He was a retired truck driver and US Army veteran. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on October 12, 1942 and was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Lee Ward Sr. and Gertrude Ward Mitchell; brother, Clay Ward; sisters, Jeanetta Couch, Dorothy Ruehling, Frances Morgan, Opal Brown and Pauline Rogers.
He is survived by his niece and caregivers, Delia and Bobby Sherman and nephew Travis; daughter, Christina Baltzell of Nebraska; sister, Ida Mae Pickett; 5 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM CST Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Minister, Johnathan Hankins officiating with burial to follow on Monday at 10:30 AM EST in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation: 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM CST Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.
