Beersheba Springs - Mr. Alfred B. Whitman, 80, passed away Thursday January 22, 2015 at a Chattanooga Hospital. He was a Timberman and farmer. He was born in Beersheba Springs on January 3, 1935 to Louis and Nellie Smartt Whitman who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Elmo, Jessie Clay and Ronald Whitman; sister, Rachel B. Whitman; half-brother, Richard; half-sisters, Thelma and Katherine.
He is survived by his wife, Jeweldine Campbell Whitman; daughter, Karen (David) Dickerson; sons, Michael (Wanda) and Dwayne (Cindy) Whitman; sisters, Linda Sue (Tracy) Hagaman and Nellie (Roy) Forsyth; brothers, Gene (Debra) Whitman and Larry (Vicki) Whitman; grandchildren, Edwin, Amelia and Olivia Whitman, John David and Allison Dickerson; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Don Hill, Bro. Charlie Barrett, Bro. Earl David Campbell and Russell Ladd officiating with burial to follow in the Whitman-Bess-King Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
