Gruetli-Laager - Mrs. Estell Tate Hooten, 97, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Sewanee Hospital with her family at her side. She was born in Scottsboro, Alabama on November 2, 1918 to Malcom and Della Kight Dick who preceded her in death along with her husband and father of her daughter, William Tate, husband, Roy Hooten; brothers, J.D., Edward, Herman Lee, G.W. and Alfred Dick. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Grundy County, Marion County and Taylor, Michigan where she retired in the early 80s, she was a graduate of MTSU State Teachers College, she was a founding member of Laager Methodist Church and was active in the Fall Creek Cemetery Association until her health declined, she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Gruetli-Laager Senior Center. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Paul Johnson; grandchildren, Susie (Larry) Carty, Stephanie (Jimmy) Counceller and Michael (Shelia) Coffelt. Shelia and Abbie Tate were very special care giving family members to Mrs. Estell; special friends, Marvin Lee Ruehling family; 8 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. William Dick and her special nephew, David McGovern officiating with burial to follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 PM til 8:00 PM at Layne Funeral Home, Inc. Palmer, Tennessee.
