Obituary of Eva B. Russell

Gruetli-Laager - Eva Burl Russell, 89, of Jackson, MO died there on Thursday, February 03, 2011 at her home. She was born in Altamont on June 06, 1921 to the late Lyman Beecher and Flossie Tipton Smartt. She was a school teacher at many of the small schools in Grundy and Blount County. She helped start the Headstart Program in Grundy County and was part of the Manhattan Project. She married LeRoy "Roy" Russell who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Knox, William and Reed Smartt; sisters, Jessie Turnage, Avis Meeks, Juanita Smartt, Ora Rankin and Geneva Watts. She is survivedby her daughter, LeVa (Paul) Clement, Jackson, MO; grandchildren, Cory (Laurie), Logan (Jackie) and Nicholas Clement; great-grandchildren, Rachelle, Alex, Ethen and Colin; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Aaron Barrett officiating with burial to follow in the Northcutts Cove LDS Church Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
