ALTAMONT - H.B. Smartt, 86, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at his home. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was born on February 04, 1925 to Marcus and Lillie Smartt who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Leonard, Jessie and Hoover Smartt. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Tate Smartt; brothers, Tommy and Markus Smartt; step-children, Jerry (Christine) Tate, Larry (Patsy) Layne, Carol (Stevie) Brady, Johnny (Lisa) Whitman, Vernon (Shelia) Whitman, Vic (Phoebe) McGee and Marlin (Karen) Whitman; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday at the graveside in the Altamont Cemetery with Bro. Wayne Norris officiating with Military Honors. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangemetns by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.
