COALMONT - Phyllis Kay Gordon, 59, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 surrounded by her family, after a long and valiant fight against cancer. Kay was a devoted wife, loving mother and a mighty woman of God who inspired everyone who knew her. Before she was stricken with cancer Kay was employed as a cashier at Save-A-Lot Grocery Store in Tracy City where she greeted everyone with a smile and a warm and loving heart. "Miss Kay" as she was known there was a tireless worker who always had time to minister to others in their time of need. Kay was an active member of Plainview Community Church where she sang in the choir, was involved in the Ladies' Ministry, devoted herself to working with the children and caring for the needs of the elderly. Kay's long walk with the Lord has been one of grace and example that has impacted countless lives in many ways. Moreover, Kay's testimony about her battle with cancer, and the power and wonder of the Lord, has been witnessed by numerous people in the community who will remember her with love. Kay was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Inez Zipp; her sister, Stephanie Zipp and step-son, Louie Gordon. Survivors include her husband, Bob Gordon; her son, Rob Gordon of Chattanooga; her step-daughter, Lori Robinson of Providence, RI; her step-son, Jeff Gordon of Flintville; her father, Edwin Zipp, Sr. of Chattanooga; two brothers, Edwin Zipp, Jr. of Bradenton, FL and Rickey Zipp of Petaluma, CA; her sister, Kelley L. Zipp of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Kierstin, Summer, James, Sammy, Danny and Katie; cousin, Marsha Coots of Venice, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Rigsby officiating with private burial Friday at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga. Visitation: Wednesday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Thursday 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
