Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Altamont - Mr. James Wayne "Jimmy" Cox, 67, passed away at his home on Sunday July 8, 2012. He was born in Palmer on August 4, 1944. Jimmy Cox was a loving, loyal family man. A hard working man who was very proud of his accomplishments. He was a Vietnam veteran of the US ARMY and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Iron Worker's Union Local 704. He was an Iron Worker most of his working life, helping construct the Sunsphere in Knoxville for the 1982 Worlds Fair, Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Hamilton Place Mall and most of the large buildings you see in Chattanooga now. Jimmy was the most avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman anyone could imagine. Most of his spare time he had was spent in the woods during deer and turkey season. He was so proud of his trophies and displayed them prominently in his home. But the most important thing in his life was his love for his family and his God and that was how he lived his life because they were his life. If you have ever spoken to Jimmy you know all about his wife, Hope King Cox; his son, Wayne (Linda) Cox; his grandchildren/children raised as his own, Dakota "Coty" Cox and Mackenzie "Micki" Sweeton and his daughter the late Meredith Cox who preceded him in death (Coty and Micki's Mom). He was also preceded in death by his father, Paul Cox; brothers, Paul Edward and Lannie Cox. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Yarworth; brother, Jeff Cox; half-brothers, Hardy, Chris and Joe Cox; half-sister, Sandra Harris; god-daughters, Mindy Harper, Lisa Earls, Kelley Wananmaker, Bridget Coppinger and Brittany Cox; a numerous amount of loving and loyal family members and friends. Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Micah Roberts and Bro. Larry Wiley officiating with burial to follow in the Altamont Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Visitation: 5:00 PM 10:00 PM Monday and 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
