Palmer – Mr. Jim Uselton, 84, died Wednesday afternoon September 28, 2016 at his home. He was born in Altamont, Tennessee on September 27, 1932 to Alton and Octie Hobbs Uselton who preceded him in death along with his son, Dale Uselton; brother, Gene Uselton; sister, Mae Tate.
Jim was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army. He retired from the City of Whitwell serving as Police Chief. Also he had served as Chief Deputy for the Marion County Sheriffs Department and a Police Officer for the city of South Pittsburg. Jim was a Master Barber and a Master Singer, Songwriter and Muscian. He was a banjo picker and guitar player. He loved gardening and camping. Not necessarily in that order he would say.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Minton Uselton; daughters, Julie Uselton, Chattanooga and Jenny (Stanley) Moore, Whitwell; sons, Tony (Rachel) Uselton and Tom (Dona) Uselton, Clint (Rebecca) Uselton, Chattanooga; brother, Johnny (Filma) Uselton, Whitwell; step-children, Randy Stocker, Mona Stocker, Judy (Charles) Barnett and Joe (Melissa) Stocker; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Riley Anderson officiating with burial to follow in the Whitwell Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.
