Gruetli-Laager – Mrs. Hester Floyd, 85, passed away, Sunday April 22, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was born in Tracy City, Tennessee on October 22, 1932 to Luther Slatton and Mae Ellen Bivens Slatton who preceded her in death along with her daughters, Geraldine Rogers and Janice Faye Griffith; husband, Amos Howard Layne and husband, Herbert Grimes; step-son, James Grimes; sisters, May Ruth Floyd, Joyce Crisp, Clara Slatton and Josephine Moore; brothers, James Slatton and Preston Bivens.

She attended the Mount Etta Free Will Baptist Church and had worked in local garment factories.  She was a faithfull caregiver to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh E. Floyd; daughter, Patricia Coppinger (Ken Roberts); step-daughters, Marilyn Floyd, Karen (Bill Ed) Slatton, Linda (Ron) Willard and Alice Willard; step-son, Doug (Dana) Floyd; grandchildren, Michael (Jackie) Griffith, Angela (Eric) Green, Stacey (Hillary) Kilgore and Eric (Sonya) Rogers; step-grandchildren, Jeff (Becky) and Jason Slatton, DJ, Conner, Jessie , Andrew, Alex and Cierra Floyd; great grandchildren, Nikea, Zachery, Emily, Breezie and Torie Griffith, Ryan Green, Kayla (Cody) McGee; sisters, Anna Rose (Oak) Griffith and Hazel (Herschel) Dick; brothers, Carl Gene (Gail), Johnny (Rebecca) and Bill Ed (Karen) Slatton; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Faron Crisp and Bill Almond officiating with burial to follow in the Swiss Colony Cemetery. Visitation: 12:00 Noon – 10:00 PM Monday and 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
