Obituary of Bernice Sue Parson

Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee – Mrs. Bernice Sue Parson, 79, passed away Tuesday August 15, 2023, at the home of her caregiver in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on March 2, 1944, to Joe B. Shrum and Grace Dishroon Shrum who preceded her in death along with her husband Rodger Keith Parson; sisters, Thelma Geary and Ruby Nell James; brothers, Carl Bailey and Joe Brannon Shrum.

She attended the First United Methodist Church at Tracy City and worked at local garment factories and later at Oster.  She also was a caregiver before her health declined.

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Cynthia Ann (Anthony) James and Krystal Hope (Richard) Schleicher; sister, Clara Humphreys; brother, Marshall Shrum; step-grandchildren, Logan and Kiefer; several nieces and nephews; special friends and caregivers, Rose Stevens, Michelle Childs and Susie Howell.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Danny Coffelt and Bill Ross officiating with burial to follow in the Coalmont Cemetery.

Visitation: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.
